Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Smartago LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information in connection with your use of TV Box Tools — TV Launcher Manager (the “Tool”): a setup tool for Android TV, Google TV and TV boxes, which runs on your own Windows, macOS or Linux computer, on an Android phone or tablet, on the television itself, or in a browser, and talks to your box over ADB. This document describes what the current version actually does; it is written from the code.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no password. The Tool never asks who you are.
  • No advertising and no purchases. There is no ad network, no third-party analytics SDK, no Firebase and no billing inside it.
  • Nothing about your box leaves your machine: not the apps on it, not its name or serial, not a single command or its output.
  • What reaches our servers: an anonymous device registration and stability reports.
  • We do not sell, rent or trade data, and we do not build advertising profiles.

1. What stays on your machine

The Tool works directly between the machine you are holding and your own box, over a USB cable or your own local network. None of the following is transmitted to us or logged on our side:

  • The list of applications on your box, which one answers HOME, and anything you disable, enable or install.
  • Every command the Tool runs and everything the box answers. The console and the session report live in the window in front of you.
  • Your box’s serial number, model, name and network address, and the pairing code you type for wireless debugging.
  • Any APK file you choose from your machine, and any file the Tool lists or reads on your box.
  • Screenshots you take of the box, and backups you make of its apps.

2. How the Tool identifies your device

There is no account, so the one thing we need in order to count installations is tied to the installation itself:

  • Installation ID — a random identifier the Tool generates on your machine the first time it runs and keeps in its own local storage. The same value is used for stability reports. It is not your advertising ID, not the Android ID, not a hardware serial, and it is never read from the operating system. Clearing the Tool’s data, or reinstalling it, produces a new one.

It is not linked to a name, an e-mail address or an account, and it is not used for advertising. The Tool does not read or use the Android advertising ID. We name it here explicitly because a device identifier counts as personal data under the GDPR even when it is attached to nothing else.

3. What the Tool sends to our servers

Our servers (api.smartago.net and tvboxtools.com) receive only the following:

  • Device registration — at start-up, at most once an hour and always on the first start of a day. It contains: the Installation ID; which of our tools it is and its version; whether it is running on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android or in a browser, with the operating-system version, the processor architecture and the maker and model where the system reports them; the version and package of the browser engine that draws the screen; and whether this copy came from a store or from this website. Why: to count installations honestly without asking anyone to register, and to know which systems and which browser engines to support.
  • Stability reports — after an error or a crash. They contain the Installation ID, the error message and where in the code it happened, and the same machine facts as above. An identical report within five seconds is dropped so that a loop cannot flood anything. Why: to find and fix faults.
  • Suggested language — on first launch, a request to our own endpoint. Nothing about you is uploaded; the suggested language is derived from your IP address on our side. Why: to open in a plausible language instead of English for everyone. It stays a suggestion — nothing changes by itself.
  • Update check — a small file read from this site (tvboxtools.com/dl/manifest.json), which also lists the apps the Tool can install for you. Why: to tell you when a newer build exists, and to verify with SHA-256 what it downloads.

What is never sent: anything read from your box, the commands you run, their output, the files you pick, or your session report.

4. Third-party services

The Tool contacts no third-party service. It talks to your own box, and to our own servers listed above. When you ask it to install one of our applications, it downloads that application from smartago.net and checks it against the SHA-256 in our manifest before installing. When a launcher you picked is not on the box, the Tool can open that launcher’s page on your television’s Google Play so you can install it there with the remote — that request is made by the television, not by us, and Google’s own terms apply to it.

5. Permissions the Android app asks for

  • INTERNET — to reach your box over the network, to read the update manifest, and to send the two messages described above.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE — to know whether there is a usable network and which one, before scanning for boxes.
  • CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE — to receive the multicast announcements Android TV boxes make, which is how the Tool finds them on your own network without you typing an address.

It asks for no camera, no microphone, no location, no contacts, and no access to your storage beyond the single file you pick yourself when you choose an APK.

6. What we do not do

  • We show no advertising and embed no advertising SDK.
  • We embed no third-party analytics SDK. There is no Google Analytics, no Firebase and no Crashlytics in the Tool.
  • We do not log, store or transmit anything the Tool reads from your box, or anything you type into its console.
  • We do not sell, rent or trade your information, and we do not use it to build advertising or behavioural profiles.
  • We do not collect location, contacts, messages, photos or documents, and the Tool never uses a camera or a microphone.

7. This website

tvboxtools.com uses self-hosted, cookie-free analytics (Umami) that counts page views and download clicks. It sets no cookies, builds no profile, and there are no advertising or tracking cookies of any kind on the site.

8. Storage, security and how long we keep it

The two messages above are stored on servers we operate ourselves and are transmitted over HTTPS. Access is limited to the people who maintain them. We keep the rows as long as they are useful for counting installations and fixing faults; stability reports are of no use once the fault is fixed and are cleared out periodically.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and object to our processing it. Because the Installation ID is random and tied to nothing else, we cannot look you up by name or e-mail — which is the point of building it that way. If you want the rows for your installation removed, write to the address below and we will tell you how to read your Installation ID from the Tool so we can delete exactly those.

10. Children

The Tool is for setting up devices. It is not directed at children and collects nothing that could identify one.

11. Changes to this policy

If what the Tool does changes, this page changes with it and the effective date at the top moves. We rewrite this document from the code rather than from a template, so that it keeps describing the version you actually have.
