Can I change the launcher on a Fire TV stick?
No. Amazon closed the custom-launcher route in Fire OS in October 2025; the launcher-swap tricks that circulated for years stopped working, and the newest sticks cannot sideload at all. Our tool does not support Fire TV, on purpose: we would rather tell you this than sell a workaround that breaks on the next update. What does work: a small Android TV or Google TV box in the same HDMI port — everything on this site applies to it, launcher, HOME button, ads and all.
What exactly changed
- October 2025: Fire OS stopped allowing a sideloaded app to behave as the home screen. This is a platform change, not an app bug — every launcher and every helper tool hit the same wall.
- The newest sticks go further and refuse sideloading entirely.
- Launcher Manager by sweenwolf, the tool people used for years, has its own honest page here — same story.
What you can actually do
- Keep the Fire TV as it is — or retire itInside Fire OS, Amazon's home screen is the home screen. That is the deal of the platform now.
- Put an Android TV box in the same HDMI portChromecast with Google TV, onn 4K, or any Android TV box. On those, the HOME button, the launcher and the ads are yours to decide — the guides on this site walk every step.
- Your apps come alongThe big streaming apps exist on both platforms; you sign in again and carry on.
Questions
Some site says there is still a trick. Why not use it?
Tricks that fight the platform die on the next update, usually taking your setup with them. We only document routes that use Android's own mechanisms — Fire OS no longer offers one for launchers, so we say no.
Does TV Box Tools do anything at all on Fire TV?
ADB debugging still exists on Fire TV, so read-only things work — device info, a screenshot. We do not advertise it as supported, because the job people come here for, HOME, is closed there.
